Atlanta Animal Shelter Statistics
Compiled by Spot - Stopping Pet Overpopulation Together
Since 1998, Stopping Pet Overpopulation Together (SPOT), an Atlanta area humane organization, has been collecting and analyzing statistics
gathered from Atlanta area public animal shelters in order to identify trends and pin point areas where public education about pet
overpopulation and responsible pet guardianship might make the greatest difference. This week SPOT released the latest statistics that
volunteers gathered from twenty counties in the Atlanta area. They can be viewed in full along with data from past years atwww.spotsociety.org/spotsocietystatistics.htm
We Say Kill Because It Isn’t Euthanasia
Euthanasia means "good death." This is what you do for an animal that is suffering, isn't going to get better and can't understand what is causing him pain. This is what you do for a dog that was so poorly socialized that it cannot be trusted not to bite people and might go on to cause serious harm. Euthanasia is not what is happening in Atlanta area shelters. Healthy animals are killed for no other reason than because they are surplus. This is not euthanasia and SPOT refuses to be a part of the incorrect use of the word. We call it a "Kill Rate" because that is what it is. Please visit SPOT at www.spotsociety.org to find out more about what you can do to help stop the killing.
